The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has finally gotten a little more footage, but it looks like Princess Zelda is stuck as a girl again.

At the Nintendo 2021 E3 Direct, footage for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was finally revealed . Fans can finally see Link's new robot arm in action, take a look at the sky islands of Hyrule, and get a glimpse of a new villain that could be a reborn Ganondorf. Players will be able to take Link to the sky in this game, in parallel with the release of Skyward Sword HD in July. With a 2022 release period set, it finally looks like this long-awaited sequel to one of the biggest Switch games is actually coming out. Link's adventure in post-apocalyptic Hyrule can finally continue.

However, someone misses this adventure. Princess Zelda again seems to have missed her play-role shot and it's up to Link to save her. While it's not yet fully confirmed, the new Breath of the Wild 2 gameplay trailer definitely implies that Zelda is once again overlooking the action. At the very beginning of the trailer, Zelda disappears into the darkness. Considering the massive Rage wave coming from the bottom of Hyrule Castle, which is assumed to be somewhere where Link and Zelda were in Breath of the Wild , it looks like Zelda is sealed within the Rancor-infected. castle again and again.

Game Princess Zelda doesn't have a great trackRecord

Because of this, it looks like Breath of the Wild 2 is resurrecting a much-mourned Zelda tradition of taking the main character out of the picture. Zelda is there with Princess Peach as one of the Nintendo damsels in trouble, and she has a nasty tendency to be captured, comatose, sealed in some way (even if it's self-inflicted), or hiding in a hideout for part of the game - before transitioning to one of the other states. It's a really outdated trait of the series, but unfortunately, even though exits are available, Nintendo seems to be committed to making sure Link is the hero and Zelda the target.

Back at E3 2016, during the Nintendo Breath of the Wild Treehouse, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma was asked about the prospects for a Zelda game. His reasons for explaining why this couldn't happen were not well received. Aonuma introduced the idea that if Princess Zelda was the main character, Link wouldn't care. In another interview, he mentioned that since the Triforce is made up of Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf, Link's transformation into a female heroine was also ruled out because Zelda was already there. It's even more outrageous when you consider when Zelda was active in the Legend of Zelda game .

Princess Zelda was a hero in the past legend of Zelda

Princess Zelda has been playable in several previous Zelda games, even if the focus is usually on Link. While two of the older CD-I Zelda spin-offs are technically examples of this, fans will be more inclined to think of Spirit Tracks instead. Spirit Tracks features a ghostly Zelda that can take control of the Phantoms, a large armor that some players will recognize from Zelda's special offer in Super Smash. Bros. ultimate . It's more of a support role, but it allows players to access both Link and Zelda at the same time, and Phantoms can do a lot of things that Link can't.

Princess Zelda has long been known as a skilled magician and the personification of the power of the goddess Hylia. She doesn't get much chance to brag about it, but the Hyrule Warriors games were two such cases. Zelda in the first game was at the height of her power and entered the battlefield with a graceful fighting style that included sword strikes and light magic.

This Zelda doesn't accurately represent how she is usually found in canon, but the Sheikha princess , who wields the slate cipher , is a princess. Age of Calamity Zelda shows how she could be in Breath of the Wild 2 , using a combination of Sheikah Slate and Bow of Light's advanced features. It's still not out of the question, but it seems unlikely given the Breath of the World 2 gameplay trailer .

How could you play as Princess Zelda in Breath of the Wild 2

But since hope is born from eternity, there are a few more ways Nintendo could turn Zelda into a lead role, now or in the future. For starters, she could be made playable in special episodes. It would be nice if it wasn't just some quick cinematic entertainment, especially if she has access to Link's regular weapons and the first Breath of the Wild Sheikah Slate.

A playable Zelda, if it is to coexist with a playable Bond, must be similar or exactly the same; there really is no reason why it can't be. Again, Age of Calamity shows that this can be done with a more technical use of Sheikah Slate compared to Link. If Zelda is unable to participate in the Breath of the Wild 2 campaign , then she will subsequently be playable; an unlockable bonus can change the link to Zelda. A DLC version of this option, or even the entire downloadable mini-album. A princess hike would be nice too.

After all, fans would be very pleased if Nintendo would let Zelda play the big, core Legend of Zelda game . Her name is in the title, and you can just write a new entry so she has the Triforce of Courage this time, if that's what it takes. Fans would also like to see Linkle return as part of a more detailed character generation for Link, but resolving the issue with Princess Zelda should be a priority. Given that Zelda's light forces often play a major role in defeating Ganondorf, and she was the one who dealt the deathblow to Calamity Ganon, this perennial member of Nintendo's leading woman should really get a chance to shine.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will release in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
